Local fishing spots around Eastbourne

Eastbourne has some great inshore marks to fish, such as the; 'Elphick Tree', 'Horse of Wellingdon' and the 'Royal Sovereign Shoals'. On the inshore fishing marks you would be likely to catch Plaice, Dabs, Bass, Brill, Turbot, Bream, Cod and Pollack at different times of the year.

oceana wreck near eastbourneThere are also so many other wrecks in this area, one of the biggest on the south coast called the '
Oceana'. This was a P&O cruise liner; it was 6,610-ton and 468ft of ship carrying gold and silver as its cargo. It sunk in 1912 after a collision. The ship now lies just off the coast of Eastbourne. There are a mass of wrecks in this area which hold; Cod, Pollack, Bass, Conger eels etc...

Also, there is the Royal Sovereign Light Tower, which was completed in 1971. This replaced the light vessel which had marked the shoals since 1875 (except during the Second World War). The navigation light is 112ft above sea level and is used as a helicopter pad.

fishing in EastbourneEastbourne's Sovereign Tower also boasts some great fishing around it, such as; Pollack, Bass, Black Bream, Tope, Plaice etc... This area is rich in marine life over the ground and inshore marks. I have had some of my best Cod fishing on the offshore wrecks and have also had some big Congers.

The types of shipwrecks vary from Coasters to Submarines, Planes to Trawlers and they all hold fish at certain times of the year, which gives some great variety to fishing.
